Galen Grayson, MD -- began his refractive surgery experience over a decade ago, when he performed LASIK at Carolina Eye Associates, in Charlotte.
He has continued his practice of refractive surgery at Genesis Eye Center which he founded in 2002 and currently serves as president. He is certified on multiple laser systems and is a member of American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Grayson graduated Summa Cum Laude and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in 1983. He attended the Institute of European Studies in Vienna, Austria in 1980-81. Dr. Grayson graduated from Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA in 1988 and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California/Doheny Eye Institute Los Angeles, CA in 1993.
He also holds memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Charlotte Medical Society, and the American Board of Ophthalmology of which he is Board Certified. He was a decorated officer in the United States Navy where he received the Navy Commendation medal and two Navy Achievement medals. He also received the Julia Dykman Andrus Fellowship in Surgical Research and the American Heart Association Research Fellowship. He was a recipient of the US Navy’s Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship and the Merrill Overseas Scholarship. Dr. Grayson is also a former commissioner for the North Carolina Boxing Commission.
Dr. Grayson is the former chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC and currently oversees emergency related eye care and eye trauma.
