What to expect from LASIK?
Studies performed over the last 15 years on patients who have undergone LASIK showed that 94% of patients achieved 20/20-or-better vision after the procedure, and that nearly all patients said they would recommend LASIK to a friend. About 25% of people who underwent LASIK had some difficulty with night vision during their first few weeks. There have been reports of experiencing halos, glare, and starbursts. Younger patients had night vision symptoms more often than did older LASIK patients. Nearly all of these cases cleared up during the first year, as a normal part of the healing process. In fact, the number of people reporting night vision symptoms fell to less than 5% a year after LASIK. Symptoms of low contrast in poor light also disappeared with time. The effects proved to be temporary and usually returned to pre-procedure levels within three months. A lifestyle of vision without glasses or contacts and a better quality of vision are two of the most important benefits that you may ever experience. Over half of all patients who have had LASIK express regret that it was not a vision alternative chosen much sooner in life. |
