 Gary Slaughter, MD is a practicing dermatologist and co-owner of Charlotte Dermatology.
Dr. Slaughter graduated from the University of Alabama in 1990 with a biology degree and completed his graduate work at Auburn University in medical technology. After graduating from Meharry in 1997 with his medical degree, Dr. Slaughter attended the University of Michigan for clinical training in dermatology.
Currently, one of the most significant trends in dermatology is its increasing focus on cosmetic procedures, especially with new information on hyper-pigmentation of the skin and sun freckling. Dr. Slaughter is researching the impact certain treatments like alpha glycolic acid and coffeeberry extract would have on his patients.
Dr. Slaughter participates in Physicians Reach Out, a program that responds to the barriers to healthcare that keep Mecklenburg County's low income, uninsured residents from receiving the best possible care. The program seeks to distribute underserved patients to physicians, like Dr. Slaughter, who take part in the effort. “The outreach program allows us to share the wealth of our practice with the community. You can't get a more rewarding feeling than helping someone," he says.
Another way Dr. Slaughter serves the community is by using his skills as a professional pilot to fly volunteer healthcare missions with the mid-Atlantic division of Angel Flight. He has passed on his love of flying to his youngest son. His eldest son is the family athlete and his wife is a high school civics teacher. Active in his church and the Eagle Scouts, it's important to Dr. Slaughter to be a positive role model for today’s youth. |
